Lab in a tube
Build a smart catheter
Completed InterdisciplinaryThe interdisciplinary competition Lab-in-a-Tube consisted in designing and implementing a smart catheter equipped with temperature and liquid flow sensing. Teams of 3-4 students with different engineering background conducted independently their project in dedicated lab space.
The project spanned from design to experimental validation of flexible microsensors via manufacturing, electronics and modelling. Hands-on experience included microfabrication in the cleanroom (EPFL CMi), characterization of materials and devices, instrumentation, signal processing and validation.
The friendly competition was evaluated in terms of optimized sensor design, integration of the sensing system in a tube with millimeter-diameter, calibrated and functional prototypes, and team management.
